TOP TEN TIPS FROM THE CLASS OF 2008
1. Start looking at colleges early.
2. Start your applications weeks even months before the deadline.
3. Don’t apply to schools just for the sake of applying or because they sent you an application.
4. Carefully look over scholarship applications. Don’t wait until the night before they’re due. Some require additional materials, such as a transcript from the guidance office. Plan accordingly.
5. Write all of your essays over the summer.
6. Organize applications according to deadlines, for example, early action, early decision, regular decision, rolling admission.
7. Ask your teachers for letters of recommendation before school ends.
8. Email coaches in the winter of your junior year to express you interest in their school and athletic program. If you stay overnight, ask to stay with members of the team.
9. Visit colleges while school is in session. You will get a better feel for the campus.
10. When trying to decide which college is for you, an overnight visit can help put the school in a realistic light.
